Since 1994 the Senior of the Year Award honours one outstanding local senior in each municipality in Ontario who after the age of 65 has enriched the social, cultural or civic life of the community. Nominees must be: At least 65 years of age A resident of Ontario A living person who has made their community a better place to live Nominated by the City of Elliot Lake Seniors who qualify for this award may have contributed to any number of fields such as the arts, literature, community service, volunteering, education, environment, fitness and humanitarian activities.

Frozen Water Lines Possible due to Cold Temperatures Due to the very cold weather, we are recommending homeowners to let your cold water run as a preventative measure to keep your pipes from freezing. A small flow, approximately the diameter of a pencil, is all that is required to reduce the risk of frozen service.

New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Requirements in effect as of January 1 As of January 1, 2026 the Ontario Fire Code requires the installation of additional carbon monoxide alarms, regardless of building age. This new legislation applies to residential homes and care facilities served by a forced-air fuel-burning appliance not contained within the building.
