Since 1994 the Senior of the Year Award honours one outstanding local senior in each municipality in Ontario who after the age of 65 has enriched the social, cultural or civic life of the community.   • Frozen Water Lines Possible due to Cold Temperatures Due to the very cold weather, we are recommending homeowners to let your cold water run as a preventative measure to keep your pipes from freezing. A small flow, approximately the diameter of a pencil, is all that is required to reduce the risk of frozen service.
  • Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program Applications Begin Soon Attention not for profit groups The second intake of the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) grant is approaching. What is eligible? Local services boards and not-for-profit organizations in rural Ontario can apply through the following streams: - Economic diversification, competitiveness and capacity building: projects that support communities to build economic development capacity and implement strategies that increase competitiveness to retain businesses, attract investment and enhance growth.
  • Found Cat A Good Samaritan found this male grey tabby in the Mississauga Avenue area. The cat was brought to the City Animal Shelter for safekeeping.
  • Rogers Arena Project Update - January 9, 2026 As we begin to head into the new year, the City of Elliot Lake would like to provide an update on the ongoing renovations happening at Rogers Arena. Before we begin, we'd like to recognize the workers who volunteered to work on site throughout the holiday season.
  • Update: January 12 Council Meeting Happy New Year! As our staff and Council get back into the swing of things for 2026, we have a quick update regarding our upcoming schedule. Because there are currently no action items requiring a vote, the City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, January 12th has been cancelled.
  • New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Requirements in effect as of January 1 As of January 1, 2026 the Ontario Fire Code requires the installation of additional carbon monoxide alarms, regardless of building age. This new legislation applies to residential homes and care facilities served by a forced-air fuel-burning appliance not contained within the building.

  • Sidewalk Snow Removal Update Please note that sidewalks in residential areas will not be maintained today as crews will be focusing on keeping the roads cleared and the main downtown core area cleaned. Weather permitting, Crews will be out clearing sidewalks on Tuesday December 30th.
