Volunteers are Very Important to the City of Elliot Lake

Since 1971, the City of Elliot Lake Mayor and Council have recognized volunteers in the community.

These residents have improved the quality of life in the community by freely contributing their time, skill and energy.

Who chooses the Civic Award winner?

A committee meets once a year to choose a deserving winner

The committee is made up of:

Karilynn Kluke, Director of Recreation and Culture
Rhona Guertin
Ken Pierce

What does the Committee do?

the committee:
- reviews all nominations
- selects the Civic Award winner
- does a report with their recommendation to Council

How does the Committee pick a winner?

The Committee uses the following criteria to decide:

Length of residence in Elliot Lake – 5 years plus.
The personal characteristics of the nominee regarding respect and reputation in the Community.
The types of civic-minded activities this person does, for which organization or church, and for how many years.
The amount of time and effect the nominee puts into their service to the community.
The reasons the nominator believes the nominee is involved and what benefit does the nominee receive.
The value of the nominee's activities to the community organization or church.
Is there any compensation for the volunteer’s hours and if so what is the compensation?

What happens once the Committee gives their report to Council?

Council reviews the Committee's report and gives their final approval. Once approved, the winner will be told the date and time when they will receive the award.
