Funding available through the City's Community Improvement Plan

The City's Community Improvement Plan (CIP) offers financial incentives to new and existing businesses:

  • Incentives for building or renovating multi-unit or multiple single family dwellings
  • Incentives for tourism operators
  • Planning and design grant
  • Building façade improvements
  • Signage and lighting improvements, awnings and street numbering
  • Landscaping and property improvements
  • Upgrade to Building Code (structural improvements)
  • Planning application fee and building permit fee grant
  • Property tax increment grant

Additional Funding Opportunities

The City of Elliot Lake has some wonderful Regional Development Assistance Partners. Each offer different resources, grant and funding options to help grow or start your business.

The Elliot Lake and North Shore Corporation for Business Development (ELNOS) was established to stimulate economic growth through new business development and investment. ELNOS helps advance business development by providing creative and flexible solutions to those looking to start or expand a business.

The East Algoma Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) is a federally supported not-for-profit Community Futures Development Corporation. Governed by a Board of local volunteers, EACFDC supports community economic development by assisting East Algoma communities and entrepreneurs and offering help with Financing and Loans. They also offer business counselling.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is a Government of Ontario initiative to create job opportunities in northern communities. The corporation provides financial assistance to projects that stabilize, diversify and foster the economic growth and diversification of the region.

The Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor) is the Government of Canada's economic development organization for the region. Through its programs and services, and through its financial support of projects that lead to job creation and economic growth, FedNor works with businesses and community partners to build a stronger Northern Ontario.

Founded in May 2016, Millworks - Centre for Entrepreneurship began a new approach to fully embrace the importance of supporting new and existing businesses in the community. With support through the City of Sault Ste. Marie, in conjunction with the Ministry of Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, along with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, a strong ecosystem of stakeholders and supporters has been created. This ecosystem has allowed Millworks to deliver programs and services to Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma Region.
