Transit and Transportation

We operate Elliot Lake Transit, a public transportation service that can help you travel through our well-connected community. Ninety-five per cent of residences are within a five-minute walk of a bus stop.

The large, major cities of Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie are within a two-hour drive from our city. The scenic Highway 108 connects Elliot Lake with the Trans-Canada Highway, leading you to either city and beyond.

Fares and Passes

You can buy Elliot Lake Transit tickets and passes at City Hall or at the Elliot Lake Public Library. Purchases of Transit Tickets and Monthly Passes are CASH ONLY at both locations.
You can also pay transit fares on the bus when boarding.

  • You can buy blocks of 12 tickets for $30 (adults, seniors and students)
  • Please be aware that if you are using a bus pass you must present photo I.D. along with the bus pass when boarding the bus.
  • Children 4 and under may ride City Transit for free

If you have a household income below the government issued low-income cut-offs (LICO), you may be eligible for an Affordable Access Card which allows you to purchase monthly Transit passes for a reduced rate. Click here to learn more.

Pass ID cards

We create Pass ID cards at the City Hall front desk. You must provide identification with your name, date of birth and a recent photo. You can use an old photo, but it must be the same size as a passport photo, with no smile and no glasses.

Accessible Transit

Elliot Lake Transit is a fully accessible transit system. Our buses are equipped to help riders with disabilities travel within the city.

Handilift

For those not able to ride on a regular bus, Huron Lodge operates a Handilift accessible transit service. To ride with Handilift, you must be unable to board the regular transit bus or be unable to walk 500 feet (150 metres).

Booking a Handilift trip

To book a trip with Handilift contact Huron Lodge, at least 24 hours for a request is preferred, to a maximum of 4 weeks in advance. Last minute bookings may be requested outside of 24 hours' notice, however all bookings are subject to availability. Handilift tickets can be purchased from the Public Library or City Hall. Monthly bus passes are available at City Hall. Ticket costs are the same as regular transit passes.

Mondays to Wednesdays 7:00am to 6:00pm

Thursdays and Fridays 7:00am to 9:00pm

Saturdays 7:00am to 6:00pm

Sundays 8:30am to 4:00pm

Registered Clients

To become a registered client with Handilift, submit an application verifying your eligibility. The application is available at City Hall or Huron Lodge. It must be completed by your doctor, Nurse Practitioner, chiropractor or registered therapist.

Taxis, Rentals and Out of Town Bus

There are several car rental, taxi, shuttle and bus services you can use for personal transportation around Elliot Lake and the Algoma Region.

Taxis

You can order a taxi from two private taxi companies operating in Elliot Lake, year-round:

Ontario Northland bus service

Ontario Northland provides east and west bus service to Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and other Cities in Ontario. The pickup location is at the Rexall Pharmacy in Elliot Lake where it connects with an Ontario Northland bus at a restaurant parking lot at 4683B Hwy 17 in Spragge.

Schedule

Afternoon:

The bus leaves Elliot Lake at Rexall Pharmacy at 12:25 p.m. to meet the Eastbound Ontario Northland bus at 4683B Hwy 17 in Spragge and returns back to the Elliot Lake Rexall Pharmacy at 1:40 p.m. six days a week, not travelling on Saturdays.

Evening:

The bus leaves Elliot Lake at Rexall Pharmacy at 7:45 p.m. to meet the Westbound Ontario Northland bus at 4683B Hwy 17 in Spragge and returns back to Elliot Lake Rexall Pharmacy by 9:00 p.m. six days a week, not travelling on Saturdays.

Mobility Scooter Charging Stations

There are a number of locations within Elliot Lake where outdoor outlets have been installed to allow residents to charge their Mobility Scooters. A list of locations can be found below.

  • City Hall (Back of building near visitor/staff parking)
  • Miners Memorial (seasonal)

  • Paris Park

Adapters are not provided for charging, if your scooter requires an adapter please bring it with you to use the chargers.
