Fall/Winter

Spring/Summer

Once the gate is opened in the Spring it is generally not closed until the end of the season however it may be closed in the event of things like dangerous road conditions or when work is being performed at the Lookout that could pose a danger to visitors.

Garbage and Recycling Questions

Municipal garbage collection within Elliot Lake is managed by GFL Environmental. If you experience an issue with your garbage pickup please reach out to their office at 705-356-4118.

  • If your street was not collected it is likely that there was an issue with pickup such as a truck breakdown or a driver taking a different route causing your pickup to be later than usual.
  • If your neighbors' garbage was picked up but yours was not there may have been an issue with the way your garbage was secured or it's contents not being eligible for pickup.
Please contact GFL for more information.

As a reminder, up to 3 bags of household garbage can be taken to the City Landfill at no cost.
For anything over 3 bags a minimal fee will be charged.

Recycling items are classified into 2 main groups,
“C” items (Comingle items like Plastic, Metal and Glass) and
“F” items (Fibre items like Cardboard and Newspaper).

Each class of item is picked up every 2 weeks on an alternating schedule. So for example, if C items are picked up this week, then F items will be picked up next week and then C items will be picked up the next week and so on.

The Recycling schedule is mailed to each household in Elliot Lake at the beginning of the year and can also be found on the Garbage, Landfill and Recycling page

The City of Elliot Lake does not provide Recycling bins for residents.
Blue recycling bins as well as trash cans are available for purchase at several retailers within the City.

All cardboard left for pickup must be able to fit in the 2ft x 2ft hopper. If a piece of cardboard is bigger than this it will not be picked up. If you have a piece of cardboard that is larger than 2ft x 2ft we suggest you break it down into smaller pieces so that it can be collected.

Alternatively, residents may bring their larger recycling items to the recycling depot at the City Landfill. It is located at the entrance to the landfill on the right hand side and operates on the same hours as the Landfill.

Mondays to Fridays 10:00am to 5:00pm
Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm
Sundays and Holidays Closed
