The City of Elliot Lake is very pleased to announce that Derek Young, C.Tech., CRS, RCSI, AMP, RCCA, will be joining the team as our new Director of Public Works, effective August 10, 2026.
Mr. Young brings over 15 years of progressive municipal leadership experience in engineering, public works, and infrastructure management, most recently as Manager of Engineering for the Town of Pelham. Derek is a Certified Technician (C.Tech.) and holds several professional designations, including Certified Road Supervisor (CRS), Road Construction Senior Inspector (RCSI), Asset Management Professional (AMP), Road Construction Contract Administrator (RCCA), and Drainage Superintendent.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Derek. We look forward to his leadership and to working together to continue strengthening and advancing Public Works for the City of Elliot Lake.
Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that the fire ban in Elliot Lake has been lifted due to improved fire conditions and rain in the forecast. Residents must continue to follow all fire permit rules and regulations.
Spruce Beach Temporarily Closed
Due to a missing person investigation by the OPP, Spruce Beach will be closed effective immediately until further notice.

The City of Elliot Lake is thanking the Government of Ontario for a significant increase in annual funding provided through the 2026 Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.
At this time there are no forest fires burning close to the City of Elliot Lake. The smoke that we are experiencing is being caused by fires in Northwestern Ontario. Elliot Lake is in no immediate danger from fires at this time.
Residents can see a current status of fires in the province using the province's Interactive Fire Map found at ElliotLake.ca/OntarioFireMap
Free N95 masks are available to those who need to be outside and/or are experiencing respiratory issues at the Elliot Lake Fire Hall located at 55 Hillside Drive North. At this time it is recommended to stay indoors and limit your exposure to the smoke as much as possible.

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that effective 10:00 a.m. July 14, 2026, due to no rain and extreme dry conditions, there is a Fire Ban in effect in Elliot Lake.
Environment Canada has issued a yellow level warning for a heat event in Elliot Lake, with hot conditions beginning today and ending either Wednesday or Thursday evening.
On Friday, the Northern Denture Clinic celebrated its grand opening in Elliot Lake with large crowd of supporters. MP Terry Sheehan, MPP Bill Rosenberg and Mayor Wannan were amongst the attendees and joined owner Izabel Timeriski DD to cut the ribbon and to do a clinic walk through.
MPP Bill Rosenberg took the opportunity, at his community BBQ, to make several funding announcements for Elliot Lake projects.
