City of Elliot Lake Receives Significant Increase in 2026 Provincial Funding

The City of Elliot Lake is thanking the Government of Ontario for a significant increase in annual funding provided through the 2026 Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.

The City has been allocated $9,489,300 for 2026, an increase of $803,700, or approximately 9.25 per cent, over its 2025 allocation of $8,685,600.

The increase represents approximately $71 per resident, placing Elliot Lake as receiving the highest per-capita shares of the province-wide $50 million increase in OMPF funding for any City.

“This funding recognizes the unique financial pressures, particularly for infrastructure renewal, faced by Northern municipalities,” said Acting CAO Natalie Bray. “This substantial increase will help the City continue delivering the essential services residents rely on while investing in local priorities and limiting pressure on municipal taxpayers.”

The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund is the Province’s principal general-assistance grant for municipalities. The funding is unconditional, allowing municipalities to direct it toward locally determined priorities such as emergency services, roads, recreation, libraries and other essential municipal operations.

“The Province’s decision to increase Elliot Lake’s allocation provides meaningful and predictable support as the City manages rising service-delivery costs and infrastructure,” said City Treasurer Andrew Ault. “Strong provincial-municipal partnerships are essential to the long-term sustainability of Northern communities, and we appreciate this continued investment in Elliot Lake.”

In 2025, the City also received an announcement of an increase to OMPF funding of over $700,000 which, along with retirement of former debt and City efficiencies, allowed the City to pass a budget with a 0% increase on the City portion of municipal taxes while covering the entirety of the recently approved loan for the arena.
