Weir Canada expands in Elliot Lake

Weir Canada has begun an expansion to their facility in Elliot Lake. This project will add floor space to their building and introduce new specialized equipment to increase the breadth of their offering from the location. Mayor Andrew Wannan and Ms. Natalie Bray, Director of Clerks and Planning Services joined Troy Irving Operations Manager of Weir Canada’s Elliot Lake facility on a tour on Tuesday February 24th.

Mr. Irving spoke on the project, “ this expansion will include adding 3,000 square feet of floor space and the addition of a new autoclave which will allow us to offer additional products. In total, this project represents a $ 3 Million dollar investment and the addition of several well-paying, skilled jobs to the community.” He also stated, “we were very happy to source local suppliers and contractors for portions of this project as a way to contribute to the City’s economic wellbeing.”

Mayor Wannan expressed his gratitude to Weir Canada for their Investment noting “We are thankful to Weir for seeing the value that Elliot Lake offers as a place to invest and for the quality of life it offers to their employees.” Ms. Bray added “The community is evolving both from a business and population standpoint and we are glad to see that one of our long standing manufacturers are part of Elliot Lake’s growth.”

Mr. Irving estimates that the project should be complete by late July . The City will be returning for a grand opening at that time.
