Ruben Yli-Juuti Centre Update - August 15, 2025
During Monday's Council meeting, City staff provided an update on the Municipal Pool regarding the mechanical issues that have caused the pool's closure since early July.
On June 30, staff discovered a large quantity of acid in the mechanical rooms at the Ruben Yli-Juuti Centre. These rooms contain the mechanical and heating systems for the three pools and the HVAC units for much of the building.
An insurance claim has been initiated to repair the resultant damage, and investigators have visited the site. The cause of the incident is still under review, with further visits planned in August to confirm coverage and determine the full scope of repairs. The matter is complex and may involve multiple parties.
Given the ongoing investigation and the time needed for planning, equipment replacement, and restoration, staff do not anticipate the Centre will reopen in September.
