March 28th Special Council Meeting Recording

We recognize that many residents were eager to watch the live stream of the Special Council Meeting on March 28, 2025. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected issue with our streaming platform, the meeting was not broadcast live. We understand the frustration this may have caused, especially given the importance of the discussion.

To ensure transparency, the meeting was recorded via Zoom. The meeting was already in progress while technical issues were being resolved, and the zoom recording begins at the beginning of Dr. Tingley’s presentation. A summary of the meeting can be found below.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank you for staying engaged in the conversation!

Summary of Special Council Meeting:
At the Friday, March 28th Elliot Lake City Council Special Meeting, Dr. Dan Tingley made a recommendation to Council that the City install additional temporary shoring to the foundation of the Rogers Arena to ensure the structural integrity of the building and the safety of the Arena workers as they continue repairs to the roof and foundation over the summer months. This was deemed necessary due to the exceptional cold we experienced during the winter months which caused deeper ground frost than previous winters resulting in increased ground movement impacting the stability of the current footings. These additional supports would help ensure the building’s stability until the permanent foundation repairs can be completed.

After a lengthy question period Council voted to approve the additional supports at a cost of $95,416.40 plus applicable taxes. The additional supports will be installed using local materials and labour in early April and will not delay the timeline of the other repairs being made to the Arena.
