"Our Town" Banner Project
The community Banner Project is a series of banners which are displayed from the lampposts in the downtown area of Elliot Lake through the summer and fall seasons. The banners were designed by and for the citizens of Elliot Lake to showcase our local heritage and visual art talents.
Banner Project: 2025
As part of Elliot Lake’s 70th anniversary celebrations, the City is proud to continue the downtown banner project, featuring unique designs by resident artists—both new and experienced.
This year’s theme invited artists of all ages to reflect on the city’s rich history, breathtaking natural surroundings, and vibrant community spirit. We were thrilled by the response and are excited to unveil 42 brand-new designs now lining our downtown and highway routes.
Thank you to all the participating artists for sharing your creative vision of Elliot Lake. Your work brings colour, meaning, and pride to our streets and continues to inspire both residents and visitors as we mark 70 years of community and creativity.

They symbolize "rebirth" because they close up at night and reopen in the morning, spreading their petals wide.

Artist Statement: Stained glass depicting a waterfall. Elliot Lake area.

Artist Statement: This is an image of a graphite and charcoal on paper artwork that illustrates the childhood I shared with my sisters growing up in Elliot Lake and living out our summers on Dunlop Lake. There was a freedom in living so close to the water, both in town on Spruce Avenue and at our camp on Pine Pond Road. We possessed an autonomy here that allowed us to explore the landscapes and offered us freedom that I haven't seen exist for children in more urban areas. It was, and still is, absolute paradise.

Artist Statement: Young or old, everyone can enjoy Elliot Lake's beautiful Stone Ridge golf course!
Watercolour painting of a young local golfer!

"Our Town" Banner Project: 2021
As part of the beautification of downtown Elliot Lake, the Arts & Culture Committee, in partnership with the City, is delighted to continue the Community Banner Project, initiated in 2020, with the same theme of “Our Town”.
This year we were able to print 41 unique designs from local artists, young and mature, to be displayed in our downtown area, accompanying the 37 designs from the previous year.
Thank you to all of the participants for sharing what Elliot Lake means to them, inspiring visitors and citizens alike, and helping to enhance the appearance of our community.

"Our Town" Banner Project: 2020
“Our Town” Banner Project was an idea suggested by a group of volunteers to beautify downtown Elliot Lake and showcase some of the work by artists in our community.
Originally spearheaded by Fran Perkins from the Arts & Culture Committee, the group evolved to include Linda Finn, Jay Smith, Claire Nolan, Julie Merk and Barb Hukezalie.
They chose the theme of “Our Town”—broad enough to give lots of scope for creativity to the artists, but specific enough to include everything from history to leisure activities to what the future might be like in Elliot Lake.
Banners include designs from children as young as 3 years old to teens and adults alike.
Thanks to the City of Elliot Lake, this project was able to come to be, even though the community was self-isolating during Covid-19.
Grand opening: Friday, July 31, 2020.
