The community Banner Project is a series of banners which are displayed from the lampposts in the downtown area of Elliot Lake through the summer and fall seasons. The banners were designed by and for the citizens of Elliot Lake to showcase our local heritage and visual art talents.
Banner Project: 2025
As part of Elliot Lake’s 70th anniversary celebrations, the City is proud to continue the downtown banner project, featuring unique designs by resident artists—both new and experienced.
This year’s theme invited artists of all ages to reflect on the city’s rich history, breathtaking natural surroundings, and vibrant community spirit. We were thrilled by the response and are excited to unveil 42 brand-new designs now lining our downtown and highway routes.
Thank you to all the participating artists for sharing your creative vision of Elliot Lake. Your work brings colour, meaning, and pride to our streets and continues to inspire both residents and visitors as we mark 70 years of community and creativity.

There was a freedom in living so close to the water, both in town on Spruce Avenue and at our camp on Pine Pond Road. We possessed an autonomy here that allowed us to explore the landscapes and offered us freedom that I haven't seen exist for children in more urban areas. It was, and still is, absolute paradise. |

"Our Town" Banner Project: 2021
As part of the beautification of downtown Elliot Lake, the Arts & Culture Committee, in partnership with the City, is delighted to continue the Community Banner Project, initiated in 2020, with the same theme of “Our Town”.
This year we were able to print 41 unique designs from local artists, young and mature, to be displayed in our downtown area, accompanying the 37 designs from the previous year.
Thank you to all of the participants for sharing what Elliot Lake means to them, inspiring visitors and citizens alike, and helping to enhance the appearance of our community.

"Our Town" Banner Project: 2020
“Our Town” Banner Project was an idea suggested by a group of volunteers to beautify downtown Elliot Lake and showcase some of the work by artists in our community.
Originally spearheaded by Fran Perkins from the Arts & Culture Committee, the group evolved to include Linda Finn, Jay Smith, Claire Nolan, Julie Merk and Barb Hukezalie.
They chose the theme of “Our Town”—broad enough to give lots of scope for creativity to the artists, but specific enough to include everything from history to leisure activities to what the future might be like in Elliot Lake.
Banners include designs from children as young as 3 years old to teens and adults alike.
Thanks to the City of Elliot Lake, this project was able to come to be, even though the community was self-isolating during Covid-19.
Grand opening: Friday, July 31, 2020.

Artist Statement: Arya is 5 years old and is non-verbal as she is on the spectrum, but that doesn't stop her from expressing herself in other ways such as art. She is truly connected to the beautiful nature of Elliot Lake as she loves to examine nature and wildlife, grounding herself in nature seems to bring the best spirits out of her.

Artist Statement: This is a fish underwater in Elliot Lake. The sun is setting on the water and creating a reflection.
Artist Statement: Owls are my favourite because they are nocturnal. I wish I was nocturnal because I could stay up all night.

Artist Statement: Waterlilies are such a common sight in many of the bays of the area lakes, and low level bodies of water. When we were kids we would pick them and float them in a dish inside our cottage. They look and smell beautiful.

Artist Statement: Young or old, everyone can enjoy Elliot Lake's beautiful Stone Ridge golf course!
Artist Statement: Watercolour painting of Linda Finn who was a long time artist in Elliot Lake. She was talented and always ready to promote the arts in any way she could! Very kind and generous lady who would freely share her knowledge and time for the arts! She leaves behind a rich legacy!
Artist Statement: Lake on Denison Road in early winter. Acrylic on canvas. I've always loved the red colour of the dogwood shrubs on this lake. So vibrant against one of Elliot Lake's many lakes. This is what I love most about Elliot Lake, it's many lakes, streams and the beauty in every season.

Artist Statement: My family and I moved to Elliot Lake in 1958. I attended public and secondary schools and was involved in several recreational events, sporting teams and various town functions. I witnessed the town transform from a mining town to a retirement living centre and recreational attractions for residents and tourists. Some of my family still reside in Elliot Lake and my family and I usually visit every summer.
Artist Statement: This was painted by my late grandfather Roland Cossette. This was inspired by his yearly hunting trips with his friends out behind Elliot Lake.
Artist Statement: Painted by my late grandfather Roland Cossette, this painting encapsulates the beauty of Elliot Lake's natural landscapes. He spent more time in the bush than at home, bringing his memories back and putting them on canvas.
Artist Statement: Painted by my late grandfather Roland Cossette. This is a sunset with inspiration taken from First and Second Lakes, of which he spent a lot of time at.
Artist Statement: Elliot lake means to me the beauty of nature when I play at the park I often see birds. It's peaceful and calm amongst the chaos.
Artist Statement: I wanted to catch what the warmth feels like when the sun it setting strong with its golden rays that shine through the tree line. When I think of Elliot Lake I think of all the beautiful trails within the city that help feed my inspiration and appreciation of wildlife and nature and how I can interpret that into my art pieces.
Artist Statement: Area along hiking trail on Esten Lake. Beautiful hiking trails and lakes.
Artist Statement: This has been home to many generation of Elliot Lakers.
Artist Statement: Whitetail Deer in Elliot Lake can best be seen in the early morning hours and just before dusk. They thrive here in the untouched wilderness.
