Lap Swim

Swim laps in the big pool with 6 lanes available, divided into leisure, slow, medium, and fast speeds. Lifeguards will ensure proper lane assignments and manage circle swimming as needed. All patrons must adhere to the Admission Standards.

 Aquafit Shallow

In this 45-minute class, use the natural resistance of water to stretch and strengthen your muscles while also boosting your cardio fitness. The session includes a warm-up, cardio, muscular strength training, endurance exercises, and finishes with a relaxing cool down. Afterward, participants can unwind in the hot tub for 15 minutes. Please bring a refillable, non-breakable water bottle and remember to follow all Admission Standards.

 Aquafit Deep

In this 45-minute Deep Water AquaFit class, harness the resistance of deeper water to enhance your cardio, strength, and endurance. This low-impact workout includes a full-body warm-up, dynamic cardio and strength exercises, followed by a soothing cool down. Floatation belts are provided for support, allowing you to challenge yourself while protecting your joints. After class, participants are welcome to relax in the hot tub for 15 minutes. Please bring a refillable, non-breakable water bottle and follow all Admission Standards.

 Aquafit Bootcamp

Try this intense 45-minute class that uses water resistance, cardio exercises and stretching in shallow and deep water to enhance abdominal stability, increase aerobic endurance and tone muscles This fast paced, high energy class also involves circuits to improve strength and conditioning, stamina, power and speed.

 Public Swim

This session is open to all ages and swimmer types, offering access to the big pool, baby pool, and hot tub. The small pool, with its warm temperature and shallow depth, is perfect for younger swimmers. The big pool features both deep and shallow areas, with a basketball net in the shallow end, a diving board in the deep end, along with toys and mats for added fun. All guests must follow Admission Standards, and children under 10 y.o. must be accompanied by a guardian. The hot tub is available for those aged 14 and older.

 Gym

Our gym offers a welcoming and friendly space for all fitness levels. Equipped with a variety of cardio machines, free weights, and strength training equipment, it’s perfect for a well-rounded workout. With a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere, it's a great place to stay active and connect with others. All patrons are required to follow facility guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Patrons must be 14+ years old to use the gym.

 Parent and Tot Program (4-36 months old)

Parent & Tot 1 (4-12 months)

Spend quality time with your child and socialize through structured in-water interaction between parent & child. Skills include: assisted front/back floats, assisted floats wearing PFD, arms splashing, reaching, and paddling on front and back & readiness for submersions. Guardian participation required. One child per guardian.

 

Parent & Tot 2 (13-24 months)

Spend quality time with your child and have fun while learning to socialize through the following skills: assisted front/back surface support, blowing bubbles on and in the water, getting face wet and floating with PFDs. Guardian participation required. One child per guardian.

 

Parent & Tot 3 (25-36 months)

Spend quality time with your child and have fun while learning to socialize through the following skills: jump entry, entry from sitting, blowing bubbles, attempt to recover object from bottom, under water passes from instructor to parent. Guardian participation required. One child per guardian.

 Preschool Program (3-4 Years old)

Preschool 1 (3-4 years old)

These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We will help them jump into chest deep water. They will try floats on their front and back, and glides on their back while wearing a PFD. They will learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater.

 

Preschool 2 (3-4 years old)

These preschoolers learn to jump into chest deep water by themselves, and get in and get out wearing a PFD. They will submerge and exhale underwater. They will glide on their front and back while wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD).

 

Preschool 3 (3-4 years old)

These youngsters will try both jumping and a side roll into deep water while wearing a PFD. They will recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They will work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

 

Preschool 4 (3-4 years old)

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves wearing a PFD. They will do side roll entries and open their eyes underwater. They will master a short (3-5m) swim on their front and gliding and kicking on their side.

 

Preschool 5 (3-4 years old)

Get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a PFD and holding their breath underwater for up to 10 sec. They will work on longer front and back crawl swims, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.

 Swimmer Program (5-12 Years old)

Swimmer 1 (5-12 years old)

These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back.

 

Swimmer 2 (5-12 years old)
Participants will jump into chest deep water, front and back float (3-5 sec), surface support (10 sec) , recover an object in shallow water, submerge and hold their breath (5 sec), kick with an aid on their front, back (5m), vertical whip kick (5 sec) and complete front and back crawl (10m).

 

Swimmer 3 (5-12 years old)

Swimmers will works towards completing the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. They'll work on 10-15m of front crawl, back crawl and whip kick and flutter kick interval training up to 4 x 15m, as well as handstands and somersaults in shallow water.

 

Swimmer 4 (5-12 years old)

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and laps of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. They'll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4 x 25m front or back crawl interval training.

 

Swimmer 5 (5-12 years old)

Swimmers will refine their front and back crawl over 50m swims of each, and breaststroke over 15-25m. Then they'll pick up the pace in 25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 10-15m breaststroke. They will also be able to complete the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard: roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute and swim 50m.

 

Swimmer 6 (5-12 years old)

These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25m. They'll easily swim laps of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke, and they will complete a 300m workout.

 Patrol Program (5-12 Years old)

Rookie Patrol - Swimmer 7 (5-12 years old)

This program develops swimming strength & efficiency with an emphasis on personal responsibility. Participants will swim 100m in 3 minutes, do a compact jump, perform the eggbeater kick (1 min) and endurance swim (350m).

 

Ranger Patrol - Swimmer 8 (5-12 years old)

Participants will deepen their understanding of safe water rescue through victim simulation and minor first aid treatment. They will swim 200m in 6 minutes. Participants will learn how to perform non-contact rescue to enhance capability in the water.

 

Star Patrol - Swimmer 9 (5-12 years old)

Participants will complete a 300m timed swim (in 9 minutes or less) and endurance workouts. Water rescue skills include turning and supporting a victim face up in shallow water and a 20m rescue with a towing aid and more advanced first aid skills.

 Bronze Star - Swimmer 10 (12 years old)

This course is in preparation for Bronze Medallion, emphasizing swimming skills and lifesaving fitness. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and with partners and learn how to take charge in an emergency. 

Bronze Star is the prerequisite to Bronze Medallion (if swimmer is not 13 years old.)

 Bronze Medallion and EFA - Swimmer 11 (13+ years old)

Your lifesaving career starts here with the first class in the Lifesaving Society's Leadership Program. This course develops a timed swim fitness component and introduces decision making and judgment skills. It also teaches responses to complex water rescue situations. The First Aid and CPR component covers a general knowledge of First Aid principles and emergency treatment of injuries. Skills to be learned will include victim assessment, resuscitation skills, CPR, choking and what to do for internal bleeding, heart attack and stroke.

Prerequisite: 13 years or Bronze Star.

 Bronze Cross and SFA - Swimmer 12 (successful completion of Bronze Med)

Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard Award. This award further develops lifesaving training and the principles of lifeguarding including rescues of increased difficulty.

Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid.

 Adult Swimmer Program

Adult Swimmer 1

Build confidence in shallow water while working on 10-15m swims on your front and back. Develop underwater swim skills with object recoveries and entries from the side. Improve your physical fitness with interval training kick sets.

 

Adult Swimmer 2

Kick it up a notch working on two interval training workouts of 4 x 25 m kicking and front or back crawl. You’ll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 10–15 m. You’ll be supporting yourself at the surface for 1–2 minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water.

 

Adult Swimmer 3

These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater or scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in sprints over 25m. They'll swim laps of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke, while being introduced to head-up front crawl.

Pool rules

We are committed to providing a safe environment at the aquatics centre. Please review our rules and let us know if you have a medical condition that requires assistance.

Adult supervision

If you bring your children to the pool:

  • All children aged 0-5 must swim in the baby pool/shallow end with a guardian.
    The guardian must be in the water, within arms reach at all times.
    Maximum 2 children per guardian
  • Children aged 6-9 who do not pass the swim test must swim in the baby pool/shallow end with a guardian.
    The guardian must be in the water, within arms reach at all times.
    Maximum 4 children per guardian
  • Children aged 6-9 who pass the swim test are allowed to swim in the deep end and to enter the pool unaccompanied.
    A guardian must be present in the building

Swim test

We may ask you to take a swim test before swimming in the deep end of the pool. You must be able to comfortably swim 2 widths of the large pool in a recognized stroke without stopping or touching the bottom; swimmers will then be required to tread water for 1 minute.

Aquatic centre staff reserve the right to ask any pool patron to complete the test.

General Rules

  • Children must be 10+ years old to use the facility unaccompanied
  • You must be a proficient swimmer to enter the deep end. You may be asked to complete the swim test to demonstrate your proficiency. If you cannot complete the swim test, you will be asked to remain in the shallow end of the pool.
  • Individuals with serious medical conditions or developmental disabilities are at a greater risk while swimming. They should be accompanied at all times by anther individual with knowledge of their condition, who can render immediate assistance if needed.
  • Patrons under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be admitted into the facility.

Clothing, footwear and swimming accessories

You must wear proper bathing suit attire to enter the pool area. You cannot wear:

  • Outdoor footwear (shoes or sandals)
  • Street clothes
  • Undergarments

Please remove your outdoor footwear in the change rooms or on the pool deck. You may wear flip-flops or water shoes in the pool area.

Water diapers

Any children who are not toilet trained must wear tight, legged plastic pants or water diapers in the pool. They cannot wear disposable diapers.

Bathing caps

If your hair is longer than 7 cm, you must wear a bathing cap.

Change room and lockers

Children 8-years-old and older must change in the change room of their gender. If this is not suitable, please contact a staff member to make accommodations. New this year is a family change room with a private shower.

We are not responsible for lost or stolen items in the change room. If you would like to lock away your belongings, you can rent a locker for a day or monthly/yearly period. You can buy a locker token for $0.25 to purchase it for the day. Locks and contents will be removed if left overnight unless you have rented a locker for a longer period. Please see the front desk to rent a locker.

Food and drink

No food and drink beverages are allowed in the pool area, but you may bring a water bottle. No glass bottles are allowed in the pool area.

Beaches

We maintain two different municipal beaches in Elliot Lake.

Spruce Beach

At Spruce Beach, you can swim in Elliot Lake and enjoy the sun with a large, sandy area. Parking is offered off Spruce Avenue and the beach offers many park amenities for playing and picnicking. Washrooms, change rooms and lifeguard services are available. Buoys indicate swimming depths suitable for children.

Spine Beach

At Spine Beach, you can swim in Elliot Lake and enjoy the sun with a large, sandy area. Parking is offered off the west end of Spine Road. The beach offers amenities for picnicking. Washrooms, change rooms and lifeguard services are available. Buoys indicate swimming depths suitable for children.

Lifeguard hours

Both beach facilities are supervised by lifeguards throughout the summer months of July and August.

Supervision hours are:

  • Daily from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Splash Pad

You can find the City of Elliot Lake Splash Pad in Kiwanis Park. This fully accessible splash pad is open to all ages and is free of charge.

Hours of operation

The splash pad is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and operational from mid-June until mid-September, weather permitting.
