Because of Elliot Lake's sweeping wilderness and proximity to hundreds of lakes within municipal boundaries, we are developing waterfront residential lots on some key lakes that surround the city. Our vision is to provide opportunities for families and residents of all ages with waterfront access and lifestyles.
This project helps encourage economic development of the city and the region and is a special partnership with the Government of Ontario dating to a private member's bill known as the City of Elliot Lake Act 2001.
We have developed 255 lots on three lakes since 2004 (Quirke, Dunlop and Popeye).
Today, the City continues to work with the Crown and the Serpent River First Nation to plan future lots on area lakes.
We take environmental sustainability seriously. Each lake development is methodically studied including water quality and fish habitat, archeological assessments and species at risk. Environmental and regulatory planning continues with the hopes of developing more lots in the near future. May Lake and a small number of new lots on Quirke Lake are the next proposed areas to develop.
In the meantime, you can view some of our lake development studies below.
