The City is following the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation and any updates regarding the City’s response to COVID-19 will be posted here.
Update: January 15, 2021
The Province of Ontario has issued a Stay-at-Home Order, in effect until at least February 11, 2021. What this means for the City of Elliot Lake:
- Stay home. Only leave your home for essential reasons, such as going to the grocery store, pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for work where work cannot be done remotely.
- Only one member of your household should do the shopping for essentials once a week.
- No indoor organized public events or social gatherings are permitted except with members of the same household.
- All recreational programs at the municipal pool, arena and the Collins Hall walking program are cancelled until further notice.
- All other City facilities remain closed to the public.
- Library services remain open for curbside only.
- Age Friendly Delivers grocery program is being maintained, call 705-849-0970 to access service.
- Transit services will be maintained (but only for work or essential trips please).
- Stay home if you are sick. Get tested at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre by calling 705-461-8882 to book an appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I protect myself and my community against COVID-19? |
- Follow public health guidelines and provincial regulations.
- All residents 70 years and older, as well as, those who are immunocompromised or living with chronic disease, should not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
- Wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of physical distance from those outside your household.
- Wash your hands frequently and do not touch your face.
- Self-isolate if sick, getting tested, or instructed to by public health. Stay home, do not report to work or go shopping.
- Get tested if experiencing any symptoms. Call the COVID-19 Assessment Centre to book an appointment at 705-461-8882.
- Use the province of Ontario's self-assessment tool before leaving your home or if you're unsure when to get tested.
- Only leave your home for essentials and only one person per family should be tasked with making the trip.
- Be patient with local businesses. They may be short staffed and wait times may be longer.

Face coverings remain a requirement in the entire Algoma District for all businesses, transit, and organizations starting Friday, July 17th, 2020
The City of Elliot Lake has passed a mandatory mask use policy as required by the Algoma Public Health. There are exemptions for medical reasons. However, everyone should be wearing a mask indoors if they do not have an underlying condition requiring an exemption.

What are the gathering limits? |

Age Friendly Delivers Continues
The City of Elliot Lake, in partnership with the local Foodland and No Frills stores, is pleased to offer a grocery shopping and delivery service for community members who are in isolation.
Even though the Province of Ontario has announced the opening of some stores and facilities in the province, health risks have not gone away and the City of Elliot Lake continues to encourage its citizens, who are at greatest risk, to continue to use the Age Friendly Delivers service or have friends or family do their shopping for them.
So if you are over 70 or immunocompromised why not take advantage of the free service to allow the city to do your grocery shopping? This service is for those who do not have a local contact or family to shop and deliver essential items like food and hygiene products.

- You must select any one of these 3 methods every time you need to make an order.
- Please only call ONE TIME, or submit ONE FORM or ONE email each time you need groceries.

- Orders are limited to 20 items, of essential needs, at any one time (a 3-4 day supply).

Age Friendly Delivers is a Zero Contact Delivery |
- Once orders are placed staff will attend grocery stores to purchase items and deliver to your residence with a ZERO CONTACT approach.
- Zero contact means the grocery order will be left at your door with a receipt for purchase to limit an exposure to those in isolation.
- Individual orders will be billed back to clients directly a few days after.

How to Pay For Age Friendly Delivers |
- After receiving your grocery order an invoice will be sent to you by email or mail a few days later.
- once you receive your invoice you can then pay for your groceries by mailing cheque, call in credit card, or use the online payment form (your invoice will have instructions).

Important Things to Remember |
- This is an essential service for those who have no local contact, and is meant for immediate need for a short term period.
- You may access services more than once, but as demand increases delivery may be based on need.
- All clients requiring service will be responsible for grocery order expense as identified with receipt received upon delivery.
- It is strongly recommended that all items taken into the home are sanitized upon entry as although safe handling will be exercised, the City cannot guarantee the exposure to items purchased in a public place.
- This service is for grocery and personal hygiene available at local grocery stores, it is not intended for personal orders throughout other retail establishments or pharmacies.
- Most pharmacies offer a delivery service and we recommend you contact your local pharmacy for more information.
- Payment is not required at the time groceries are delivered
- The receipt you receive will be used to INVOICE you for the grocery order
- Please do not call the City to pay for your order until you receive an INVOICE
- It may take 1-2 business days to receive your invoice from the time of your delivery.
- If you have supplied an email, your invoice will be emailed to you, at which time you may be able to call in to pay by credit card or pay online
- If you do not use email an invoice will be MAILED to you
- This is a pilot project intended to meet the needs of our most vulnerable who are self isolating - with the COVID-19 pandemic being an ever changing event, this project will continue to grow with demand and may be altered from time to time

Age Friendly Checks-In
A call-out service and email offered through the Elliot Lake Family Health Team for community members who do not have a local contact or family to check-in on them.

The Elliot Lake Family Health Team (ELFHT) is pleased to announce a new program initiative – Age Friendly Check-ins.
The Age Friendly Check-in program was developed and organized by the City of Elliot Lake. The original purpose of the program was to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents who were self-isolating when the COVID-19 pandemic began. The Family Health Team offers the same call-out and email service for community members who do not have local contact or family to check in on them.
To access the service, members of the public can call the Family Health Team and speak with a 2nd floor Receptionist at 705-461-8882. This service is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Update on City Services and Facilities (as of January 15, 2021)
The actions below are necessary for the municipality to follow the directives from the Province of Ontario and public health officials. All levels of service are being reviewed on a regular basis in a rapidly changing situation.
Centennial Arena and Outdoor Rinks |
- Closed until further notice.

Parks, Playgrounds and Boat Launches |
- All parks, playgrounds and boat launches are closed for the season.
|
City Road Closures |
- The city has closed the following roads:
- Panel Mine Road: opened to accommodate access to the Quirke Lake Seniors Park.
- The eastern end of Panel Road remains closed and we ask the public to continue to refrain from accessing any mine owned property and respect barricades and signage.
- Stanrock Road: the far east portion of the road is closed just east of the trail to May Lake.
- Please refrain from accessing all Rio Algom Limited and Denison Mine sites. Those properties remain active work sites and we need to eliminate the risk of interaction between heavy equipment, mine staff traffic and the public.

City Trail System |
- Trail use is permitted.
- Please obey signs and barricades.
- Social distancing on trails is still mandatory and the city’s parking bylaw still applies.

City Hall |
- Closed to the public.
- Call 705.848.2287 extension 0 and ask for the appropriate department.
- Bills can be paid online or by using the drop box in front of City Hall.

Library |
- Open for curbside pickup only.

Building Permits |
- As of July 20th persons who need to pick up and pay for a building permit must book an appointment.
- Please call 705.848.2287 ext. 2119 to book an appointment with the building department.

Parking Tickets |
- To avoid having to make an appointment, you may now pay parking tickets online using the Parking Ticket Payment Form.
- If you are unable to pay online using our form you may call 705.848.2287 extension 0 to book an appointment.

Transit |
- The City of Elliot Lake has passed a mandatory mask use policy as required by the Algoma Public Health.
- All transit users must wear a mask when riding City of Elliot Lake buses unless they meet one of the exceptions as outlined in the APH Frequently Asked Questions.
- All transit fares are waived until further notice (to eliminate the need for close contact with the bus driver / fare box).
- The front seats of each bus has been blocked off.
- The transit system should only be used for essential needs like basic groceries or getting to and from work.
- Operating Hours are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday, late service until 9:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. And Sunday service from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Transit continues to perform additional cleaning and disinfection of all buses with a focus on touch and grab points, such as buttons, railings, handles and straps.

Council Meetings

- Council meetings have resumed at the regular schedule via Zoom (2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 7 pm).
- Meetings are broadcast as usual on Eastlink Cable 10, web streamed live and archived.
- The agendas are posted as usual on the website.

Recreation |
- All programs at the municipal pool, arena and the Collins Hall walking program are cancelled until further notice.
- Any memberships will be extended for the same period that the services are unavailable.
- For information on recreation programs, the Welcome Centre, or Collins Hall, please call 705-848-2287 ext 2406 or email the parks and recreation department.
- For information about the Municipal Pool or fitness centre please call 705-848-2287 ext. 2500.

Westview Trailer Park
|
- Westview Trailer Park is now closed but you may book for next year.
- Please refrain from using the site as a day use picnic area now that it has returned to a campground. There are other parks available for day use / picnics.
- For all public spaces, physical distancing remains in effect.
- Please respect signage, ensure social distancing and be courteous with others while using public spaces and facilities.
- If crowds become too large the city may need to implement other measures to manage the risk and respect existing orders.

Municipal Landfill and Recycling Area
|
- Municipal Landfill remains open Monday through Saturday at its regular hours.
- There is a limited number of vehicles allowed in at any one time so there may be some waiting.
- The City encourages residents to use the regular Tuesday garbage and recycling pickup instead of visiting the landfill to maintain a safe distance during these times.
