Age Friendly Logo

Beginning January 6th, 2022, at 12:00 pm (noon), the City of Elliot Lake is pleased to offer a grocery shopping and delivery service for community members who are in isolation. The city is working with staff at both Lyle’s No Frills and Foodland to facilitate this service.

Health risks from Covid-19 and the Omicron variant remain a concern and the City of Elliot Lake continues to encourage all at risk residents to continue to use the Age Friendly Delivers service or have friends/family do their shopping for them.

If you are over 70 or immunocompromised, why not take advantage of this free service and allow the City to do your grocery shopping? This service is for those who do not have a local contact or family to shop and deliver essential items like food and hygiene products.

How to Register

  • To place an order:
    • Contact 705.261-0729
    • Complete our online form
  • You will need to submit your: Name, Address, Phone Number, and Payment Preference
  • Please only call once, or submit one form each time you need groceries
    • A City Staff member will return your call within 24 hours if they are unable to answer immediately.
  • Orders are limited to 20 items, of essential needs, at any one time (a 3-4 day supply)

Age Friendly Service is a Zero Contact Delivery

  • Once orders are placed, staff will attend grocery stores to purchase items and deliver to your residence with a ZERO CONTACT approach
  • Zero contact means the grocery order will be left at your door with a receipt for purchase to limit an exposure to those in isolation
  • Individual orders will be billed back to clients directly a few days after
  • Orders will take 24-48 hours for delivery
  • Ensure driveways and walkways are cleared and salted

How to Pay

  • After receiving your grocery order, an invoice will be sent to you by email or mail a few days later.
  • Once you receive your invoice you can then pay for your groceries by mailing a cheque, drop off payment in the drop box at City Hall, call in a credit card, or use the online payment form (your invoice will have instructions).

Important Things to Remember

  • This is an essential service for those who have no local contact, and is meant for immediate need for a short term period.
  • You may access services more than once, but as demand increases delivery may be based on need.
  • All clients requiring service will be responsible for grocery order expense as identified with receipt received upon delivery.
  • This service is for grocery and personal hygiene available at local grocery stores, it is not intended for personal orders throughout other retail establishments or pharmacies.
  • Most pharmacies offer a delivery service and we recommend you contact your local pharmacy for more information.
  • Payment is not required at the time groceries are delivered
  • The receipt you receive will be used to INVOICE you for the grocery order
  • Please do not call the City to pay for your order until you receive an INVOICE
  • It may take 1-2 business days to receive your invoice from the time of your delivery.
  • If you have supplied an email, your invoice will be emailed to you, at which time you may be able to call in to pay by credit card or pay online
  • If you do not use email an invoice will be MAILED to you

The Covid 19 pandemic is constantly evolving. The city reserves the right to discontinue this service or alter terms as needed based on staff and other resource availability.
