Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service that lets you sign out materials from other libraries in Ontario.
Requesting materials
In order to access items through ILL, follow these steps:
- Make sure the item is not available through our library catalogue. Ask for help at the library desk if you are having difficulty finding something.
- Search the SOLS database for the item. Library staff are also happy to help you search.
- Submit your request at the library desk.
You can have a maximum of two loans or requests at a time.
Certain items are not available through ILL. This includes sheet music, audio, video and reference materials. Anything published within the last two years cannot be signed out through ILL.
Picking up materials
Once your request is submitted, it usually takes 2 – 4 weeks to find and receive the item. The library will contact you once it has arrived. We ask that you pick up your items as soon as possible after notification.
Fees and overdue fines
Typically, there is no charge for items borrowed through ILL. Occasionally the lending library charges a fee; for example, if the material you requested needs to be photocopied. In the case of any lending fees, the borrower is responsible for covering the full cost.
Patrons with overdue ILL materials will be charged $1 per day per item, to a maximum of $10 per item. Renewals are not allowed for ILL items.
