We are happy to work with you in obtaining any information you may need from the City. The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) allows any member of the public to submit a request for information from our files that is not available through our normal channels.
Accountability and Transparency Policy
Find out more about our Accountability and Transparency Policy, which details the City's responsibility to provide good government to the public through accountability, transparency and openness.
Applying for access to information
If you find you cannot get the information you are looking for through our normal channels, you can follow our instructions for submitting a Freedom of Information request. You can also download the Freedom of Information Request Form from our website.
Please be aware of any fees associated with your application, as described in the instructions.
Responding to requests for information
Under the MFIPPA, the City has 30 days to respond to a properly filed request for information, or 30 days from the date of payment for a deposit fee, if one is required.
If we cannot release the information you are looking for, we will notify you of the reasons why. Institutions may refuse to give access to a record if the request is considered frivolous or vexatious. This includes requests that are part of a pattern of conduct that:
- Are considered an abuse of the right of access
- Interfere with the operations of the institution
- Are made in bad faith
- Are made for a purpose other than to obtain access
Appeals
Requesters can appeal any decision to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
