The City of Elliot Lake Economic Development and Diversification Strategy ("Elliot Lake! Practical Solutions for Practical Realities") is a 10-year strategy, created in 2012.

Purpose

To update the previous strategy from 1994. The current document has new strategies for meeting today's challenges.

Method

The Elliot Lake Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) retained the consulting services of urbanMetrics and BrookMcIlroy to prepare the strategy. The EDAC did so on behalf of the City.

Initial focus

The consultants initially focused on:

• Exploring the possibilities of diversifying our existing business environment
• Preparing and implementing a monitoring plan

Updated focus

After the collapse of the Algo Centre Mall, the consultants updated the focus to include:

• Preparing a Retail Market Demand and Impact Analysis
• Revitalizing the commercial heart of Elliot Lake
• Providing professional planning advice for the redevelopment of our downtown area

Input

The strategy includes input from more than 500 community stakeholders. It was developed over an eight-month period.

Results

The result of this work is the Economic Development and Diversification Strategy.
