Elliot Lake Welcomes Ontario Government’s Investment in Northern Ontario Through Budget 2026

The City of Elliot Lake is welcoming the Ontario government’s continued investment in Northern Ontario, following the release of Budget 2026 by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy.

The City is encouraged by the renewal of the $300 million over six years for the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), a program local leaders have strongly advocated to be expanded. City officials will now engage directly with the Ministry of Sport to confirm eligibility requirements and position Elliot Lake for funding that supports critical community infrastructure.

“Our Council has also made it clear that investing in local recreation infrastructure is a priority for Elliot Lake families,” said Mayor Dr. Andrew Wannan. “We raised this directly with Premier Ford, ministers, and our local MPP Bill Rosenberg, and we are encouraged to see the Government respond with renewed funding in Budget 2026.”

“Today’s announcement shows that Northern communities are being heard,” added Deputy Mayor Charlie Flintoff. “We will continue working with our provincial partners to ensure Elliot Lake is well-positioned to benefit as program details are finalized.”

Another key highlight for Elliot Lake, is the multi-year commitment towards enhancement of the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF). The OMPF will increase by $100 million over two years, bringing the total annual funding envelope to $600 million. This investment will help considerably, the City’s financial health and ability to renew infrastructure. 

Furthermore, our proud small businesses will benefit from the 30% reduction in the corporate income tax rate to lower costs and protect our local economy.

The City of Elliot Lake will continue advocating for fair access to provincial infrastructure programs to ensure Northern communities receive their share of investment and support.
