Rogers Arena Project Update - January 9, 2026
As we begin to head into the new year, the City of Elliot Lake would like to provide an update on the ongoing renovations happening at Rogers Arena.
Before we begin, we'd like to recognize the workers who volunteered to work on site throughout the holiday season. Their hard work over the last month led to many project milestones being met and has helped keep the renovations on schedule.
Throughout December and early January, several projects were completed including the installation of new weeping tile and rigid insulation on the east side of the arena as well as new baseplates on the existing pedestals. The curtain wall on the east side of the arena has also been replaced with updated studs, ledger beams, cross-braces and sheathing with a new wind barrier currently being installed as well. Additionally, removal of the old bleachers from both sides of the arena has begun in order to facilitate the new proposed floorplan.
In the coming weeks work will continue on the east wall of the arena to fully replace the curtain wall. New connectors for the braces which attach the roof trusses to the arena walls will also be installed to further reduce stress on the trusses. Work is also now beginning on the renovations being done to the lobby and changeroom areas of the arena.
The current timeline moving forward aims to have the work being done on the walls and foundation finished within the next 3 months to allow for the shoring that is currently helping to hold the roof up to be removed. Following the removal of the shoring a new concrete floor will be installed before work begins on changes being made to the ice pad area including a new layout as well as new bleachers and benches.
