Municipal Outdoor and Indoor Facilities and Access Points Closed
With Covid-19 cases spiking locally, Council made the decision at its Monday night meeting to immediately close all indoor and outdoor municipal facilities. After several months without any cases, the last 2 weeks have seen several confirmed cases in Elliot Lake with evidence of community transmission. The provincial stay-at-home order remains in place until Feb 16th. The City does not wish to encourage any non-essential gatherings and will simply close access points and outdoor amenities to reinforce the stay at home message.
Elliot Lake has a large percentage of residents at risk of Covid-19 and wants to take zero chances with the health of its residents. The provincial government makes decisions for the entire province or by region. But the City of Elliot Lake remains in a local declared state of emergency and Council will determine the levels of service for all municipal outdoor and indoor programs at its discretion.
Even when the stay-at-home order is lifted by Premier Ford on Tuesday Feb 16th municipal indoor and outdoor programs and facilities will remain closed. Council will be reviewing the level of service and closures at each twice monthly Council meeting (next meeting Monday Feb 22nd)
Effectively immediately the following municipal sites are closed:
- Miners Monument Parking Lot
- Sheriff Creek Parking Lot
- Pearson Dog Park
- Both outdoor rinks
- Both beach parking lots
- City Hall, Centennial Arena, Municipal Pool and Collins Hall will remain closed to all public access
- This list is not exhaustive and will be updated periodically on the City’s Covid-19 page.
Covid19 is a serious threat and is clearly in Elliot Lake and the immediate region. Stay at home and only travel for essential purposes. Please be kind and aware and follow all public health guidelines.
